Planning of marketing activities related to Qt 5 releases. Anybody interested in joining please come to the [Marketing list].
Key technical benefits
Sorted by priority.
- Graphics features & performance, easy to develop and deploy - OpenGL, Wayland, particles & shaders, effects, 3D…
- Performance on constrained hardware - mobile, embedded, Raspberry Pi…
- Cross-platform & easier to port to new platforms - Qt Platform Abstraction, QNX, RTOS, non-reference platforms…
- Qt and HTML5 - Qt WebKit, Web development, JavaScript, JSON, hybrid, PhoneGap, JQuery Mobile…
- Qt's ease of use - QML, Qt Creator, emulator, packaging, deployment on device, documentation, community & commercial support…
- Porting and compatibility from Qt 4 to Qt 5 - "Your current code recompiled should just work", "Run the script and you are done"…
Release stages
- Qt 5 beta expected before the Qt Contributors Summit (June 21-23).
- Qt 5 final expected before the end of August.
- Qt 5 Alpha was released on April 3, 2012.
Qt 5 Beta
- The exact day still needs be pinned, but in any case will be before the Qt Contributors Summit (June 21-23). Lars to decide.
- Announcement in landing static page for better HTML control (no wiki). The beef of the release announcement will be here. Alexandra will create it, Quim in charge of last minute changes if needed.
- Lars Knoll and Daniel Kihlberg will write blog posts complementing the announcement and linking to it. More blog posts from other contributors are welcome. All the better if you share your plans beforehand.
- More marketing deliverables?
Qt 5 Final
- The exact day still needs be pinned, but we really want it out before the end of August. Lars to decide.
- Announcement in landing page. Should be an upgrade from the beta announcement together with links to all the new materials.
- List of demos - tbd. Chuck Piercey coordinates.
- List of tutorials - tbd. Jürgen Bocklage-Ryannel coordinates.
