Talk:Support for Maemo
Rant about "Tizen" banner at top of page
I'm creating this page to discuss the "outdated" Maemo documentation.
Ok, I've gotta say, I don't mind seeing the Maemo page marked as unsupported (as that is the truth); I can see marking it as "outdated" (even though it contains the most up-to-date information on the last development environment created for the N900); but saying that "it has been replaced by Tizen" is something of a slap in the face. Tizen has not been ported to the N900, and I know of no handheld computers that run Tizen. Maemo still occupies a space in the computing world that has yet to be filled by another platform. (Which is why I'm still writing code for it.)
Besides, the spiritual successor of the Maemo line is much more Sailfish than Tizen, and that's a Qt-supported platform as well. Playing favorites with an OS just because it has Samsung behind it feels unfair...
Anyway, I just felt like ranting a little bit.
- Hi Jpietrzak8, I'm the one who put that notice up. I apologize for unwittingly misrepresenting the current state of affairs. I was not attempting to glorify any particular manufacturer; I simply wanted to capture the history of the development efforts (I read that Maemo was terminated in favour of MeeGo, which was in turn terminated in favour of Tizen. If this is inaccurate, please edit the relevant pages in Wikipedia.) I can remove the part about it being "replaced by Tizen"; is that satisfactory for you? Note that the notice of the article being "outdated" will remain, because it has a broken link to the old Qt SDK, and it speaks of Qt Quick 1 as if it's state-of-the-art technology. --JKSH (talk) 13:42, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
